Exodus Now - Wanting

Ranger – As we approach the viewing platform, please mind the guard rail as the next step is about a mile straight down! The Grand Canyon is one of the world’s great natural wonders…

Boy – Are we there yet?

Girl – I gotta go to the bathroom!

Woman – Oh, I think I stained my shirt.

Man – I hope this tour is fast. The game starts in 30 minutes.

Ranger – This whole vista was carved out of rock over eons by the Colorado River…

Teenage Girl – (on cell phone) Tina? Hi. Yeah. I’m still on vacation with the ‘rents. Yeah. Could you, like, be sure to tape the OC for me? Yeah, I’ll love you forever. Yeah. Pretty much what you’d expect. We’re looking at this big hole in the ground right now.

Woman – You should have gone at the rest stop!

Boy – I’m hungry!

Ranger – The canyon is 277 miles long and ranges from 4 to 18 miles in width…

Man – I think I’ll just head back to the car and check the score.

Woman – The sun here is awfully bright.

Girl – I gotta go again!

Ranger – In geological time, the canyon is fairly new, being only about 6 million years old…

Boy – I bet you could hock a loogie a long way here.

Teenage Girl – (still on phone) No, it’s totally lame. We haven’t had any decent food for days. I mean, like, I haven’t seen a McDonald’s since, like, Thursday!

Boy – (makes hocking sound, spitting sound) Bombs away!

Ranger – All of which makes one consider what one can do with a little persistence and a lot of patience.

Woman – Oh! There’s the gift shop! We can get started on Christmas shopping. (exits)

Boy – When are we going to eat? (exits)

Girl – Whaaaaaaaaa! (exits)

Teenage Girl – Wha… What? Hello? Yeah, you cut out. For one of the world’s wonders they sure have lousy coverage. (louder) I said “lousy coverage!” (exits)

Man – (pause) Somehow I thought it would be bigger. (shrugs and exits)
